Mortal Kombat” Developer Will Not Show New Work at Game Awards

Mortal Kombat Developer Won’t Announce New Game at Game Awards

If you think Netherrealm Studios might announce its next game at The Game Awards next week, the answer is no.

Creative director Ed Boon himself responded to expectations on Twitter. Noting that the studio is not yet ready to announce a new game.

Citing the surprise reveal of “Mortal Kombat 11” at The Game Awards in December 2018. Boon said that the developer was great, but one might have thought that it might be repeated this year. Since that is not the case, we will have to wait a little longer to learn more about Netherrealm’s next game.

It is worth noting that we don’t even know if this game will be a new “Mortal Kombat” game. The studio is primarily known for its bloody combat franchises. But it is possible that we could see some new injustices.

Boon himself teased a few weeks ago that the game would be either “Mortal Kombat 12” or “Injustice 3.”

The usual chain of DLC characters

Mortal Kombat 11 was released in 2019 to critical, and fan acclaim, and in addition to the usual chain of DLC characters that fighting game fans are already quite used to, an expansion titled Aftermath was also delivered in 2020.

Given that DLC support for this title ended more than a year ago, it is highly likely that the studio’s next game has been developing for quite some time. In other words, while there will be no appearance at The Game Awards, we may receive further news shortly.

The previous entry in the Injustice series, Injustice 2, was released just two years before Mortal Kombat 11 and depicted a dystopian version of the creator of the DC Universe and his popular superheroes.

It will be interesting to see which Netherrealm chooses, but we are waiting now.
