FNTASTIC first announced The Day Before back on January 27, 2021. A gameplay trailer was released simultaneously with the game’s announcement, showcasing the engine, mechanics, and other key features.
In October 2021, the developer announced the game’s release date as June 21, 2022; the Steam store also shows a release date, but you cannot yet pre-order the game; only add it to your wish list.
So far, we have no information on any delays, but we will keep you posted if we hear anything.
Update (June 6, 2022). Unfortunately, the developer has issued a new statement that The Day Before will be delayed to March 1, 2023. The announcement was made by Fantastic and Mytona to move the entire game from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. Their statement states, “The move to a more advanced and adaptable open-world engine will make The Day Before’s gameplay even more amazing.” The company said.
Migrating from a new engine will likely discard everything you’ve created to date. Still, in the case of Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, the Unreal Engine developers mention that they will make everything as seamless as possible. Unreal Engine 5 Migration Guide, it appears that a lot of work still needs to be done to port a seemingly finished game to Unreal Engine 5 and integrate some of the new technology that Unreal Engine 4 has over Unreal Engine 4.
Will The Day Before be available on PS4 or PS5?
There is good news and bad news. The good news is that “The Day Before” will appear on PS5 and XBOX Series S and X, but there is no concrete evidence known if it will appear on the previous generation consoles.
Update (June 6, 2022). With the recent announcement of the transition to Unreal Engine 5, it is likely that “The Day Before” for last-gen consoles is already out of the plan; PS4 and XBOX One X will likely not support this upgrade and will run on Unreal Engine 5 on these consoles. No games (except Fortnite) have been confirmed yet. There is no official statement regarding the previous generation consoles, but we will update you with any news.

From the trailer, the game looks like a mix of “The Division” and “The Last Of Us.” The third-person camera angle is perfectly in line with the style of “The Division.” The shooting style is reminiscent of “The Last of Us,” and even the reticle is similar. Let’s delve deeper into the details of the gameplay.
Colonies
This information comes directly from an IGN developer interview: there will be “hub-like” locations, similar to Destiny 2 or Monster Hunter, where players can interact with each other. They can also join groups to talk to each other and work on quests together.
The developers plan various holiday events and may offer holiday-inspired rewards, such as clothing and weapon skins. Base building will be resource-based, similar to games such as “Fall Out 4” and “State of Decay.”
The sound design of HUD indicators
According to the developer himself, he focused on sound design rather than filling the player’s screen with HUD information. This decision may lead to a more immersive experience when exploring the world of The Day Before.

Combat
Right from the start, combat looks very simple. Standard third-person shooter gameplay with the option to use vehicles and other objects as the cover is at the heart of the combat.
The finale of the gameplay trailer showed a brutal scene in which players take down an enemy and then aim at his head from close range. The developer stated that the game boasts multiple finishers and takedowns, depending on the weapons the player equips.
Another part of the combat system is that characters will make more noise if they have too much equipment. There was a scene in the trailer where you enter a building with passive zombies, and this mechanism is likely to affect these scenarios.
It is possible to join other players worldwide, but it is up to the player to blast them, befriend them, or ignore them completely.

Vehicles
The developer has uploaded a video of driving in this game. The video shows a truck driving through muddy off-road terrain. According to another interview, you may get stuck if you don’t have enough power to wade through the mud.
Driving is a liability rather than a way to skip parts of the world. It takes a certain amount of determination to get around the world.

The Day before the beta version
Developers are interested in releasing open betas for their games before the release date. Considering their previous release of the game “Propnight,” the open beta for “Day Before” is expected to be a month before the release date.
