The streaming service will allow the series, based on the award-winning PlayStation game “God of War,” with Rafe Judkins of “The Wheel of Time” serving as showrunner for the film, and “Children of Men,” “Iron Man” and “The Expanse” Oscar nominees Mark Fergus, and Hawk Ostby will write and executive produce along with Judkins.
Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios are producing “God of War” in association with PlayStation®Productions.

The series, in development since March, will follow Kratos, the God of War, who banished himself from the bloody past of ancient Greece and laid down his arms forever in the Nordic realm of Midgard. After the death of his beloved wife, Kratos embarks on a perilous journey with his estranged son to scatter her ashes from the highest peak, his wife’s last wish. Kratos soon realizes that the journey is an epic adventure in disguise that will test the bond between father and son and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.” And so it goes.
God of War Awards
First released in 2005, “God of War” has won critical acclaim in nearly every edition of the game; the 2018 release for PlayStation 4 has also won numerous awards, including a game of the year at the Game Awards. The latest installment in the series, “God of War: Ragnarok,” debuted in November.

Rafe, Mark and Hawk have crafted an inspiring series that follows Kratos’ ancient mythological journey.”
Asad Kizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, added, “God of War is one of PlayStation’s most award-winning video games. So we are excited to be working with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios to bring our beloved franchise to fans and new audiences in a bold and authentic way.” He stated.
A number of high-profile series based on video games, including Paramount’s “Halo” and HBO’s “The Last of Us,” are in the works. Sony and PlayStation Productions are also working on The Last of Us, along with the Twisted Metal (Peacock) and Horizon (Netflix) series.
Judkins, Fergus, and Ostby, along with Santa Monica Studio Creative Director Cory Barlog, PlayStation Productions’ Kizil Bash and Carter Swan, Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang, Vertigo’s Roy Lee will serve as executive producers of God of War. Jeff Ketchum of Santa Monica Studio will co-EP the project.
