Sales figures for “Slime Rancher 2” surprise developer Monomi Park, with the life-sim adventure hybrid already well over 100,000 units sold
Slime Rancher 2’s sales numbers prove just how much Monomi Park’s life game needed a sequel, and the developer is stunned by its overnight success.
Slime Rancher is, at its core, a farming game where adorable alien slime is sucked up into a colorful Hoover-style gun and spit into a pen; first released in 2016, it has developed a cult following among players.
When Monomi Park released the sequel to the classic game on September 22, it hoped to sell more than 100,000 units in the 24-hour release period. Co-founder and CEO Nick Popovich revealed insane sales numbers, and it turns out that they were more than that.
He tweeted hours after the launch, “I had a dream in my head that if the stars aligned, I could sell 100,000 units of Slime Rancher 2 in the first 24 hours.
“We did it in less than six hours. I have no idea where this crazy train is headed, but I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to ride it. Thank you all so much.”
Popovich revealed that in what became Monomi Park’s most successful release, “The past hour has outstripped Monomi Park’s previous record sales by order of magnitude.
Popovich added, “We’ve had our best sales ever at Monomi Park in the past hour. ‘Thank you all so much.
Slime Rancher is a work that I have a lot of feelings about. When struggling with my thesis in college, I used to cool off at night by playing Monomi Park’s Life Sim. I vividly remember playing it offline in the university library after I finished my thesis (much to the chagrin of my academic peers), so the thought that this game is doing well and may even attract more new players makes me smile, just like the little guy in the image above.
