A strange bug in “Overwatch” is carrying heroes off the map to their doom, but this may not be the first iteration of the bug.
Bugs are common in “Overwatch,” and some have been present since day one. These include those that transfer D.Va. and Tracer to random, remote locations on the map.
A new version of this bug appears to be emerging, affecting Echo’s use of Reaper’s teleport.
Reddit user snieprsqanza posted a video of this glitch in action on the Overwatch subreddit on July 26. Everything seems to be going well until he attempts to shadow step with an Echo copy of the reaper.
The result was that instead of reaching their targets, they were popping off the edge of the map, far from the actual play area, which was not funny.
Echoes can fly but can’t go back and fall to their doom. Interesting and perhaps annoying to the player, but the good news is that it probably won’t happen to you. This is because the Reaper’s Shadowstep needs to be perfectly timed to happen just as the Echo returns to the base form.
This disrupts the game so much that it sends the player to the map’s origin instead, just like the bug that puts her in orbit when D.Va. demechs.
It’s definitely a humorous interaction, but we wouldn’t exactly call it “game-breaking”, as you can simply respawn and get right back into the fight.
That is unless you’re fighting on point in overtime, but the chances of perfectly timing the ability while this is going on at the end of a match are pretty slim. So, it’s probably not high on the list of priority fixes for devs, especially with Overwatch 2 right on the horizon.
